Indigenous Tobacco Control Initiative PDF Print E-mail

54% of Indigenous Australians smoke tobacco as compared to 16 -19% of non Indigenous Australians. This initiative includes the Indigenous Community in consultation to develop strategies to address smoking.

People smoke for many reasons and having a multidisciplinary team approach will assist in addressing this. Using medications through the GP, seeing the Tobacco Control Psychologist and having a dedicated Indigenous Health Worker to support them in their journey to quitting will give a better chance of quitting or reducing tobacco intake.
