Healthy Kulila Kids PDF Print E-mail

The children of today are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders of tomorrow. Kulila Indigenous Kindergarten works closely with Carbal Medical Centre to ensure children grow up strong and have the best start possible in their education. Good health and a successful education are very strongly linked to outcomes in life.

An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker visits Kulila Kindergarten twice weekly during the school year and delivers information on healthy eating, hygiene, activity and other life skills to the children. Any health issues that may affect the success of their schooling are assessed and appropriate referrals are made.

The Health Care team, including the doctor, also offer Child Health Checks. The child's health is assessed and the doctor makes a plan with the parent or carer to help improve the child's health status. This contact is also important in building a rapport with the children, making a visit to the medical centre less daunting. The Worker also checks the immunisation status of the children and works in with the Toowoomba Health Service Hearing Health Service.
